Nigerians Demand Names, Photos of EFCC Officials Detained For Cash, Jewelry Theft

Credible sources disclosed that between $350,000 and $400,000 has reportedly gone missing, along with expensive jewellery and other high-value items.

Nigerians have demanded the names and photos of EFCC Officials detained for cash and jewellery theft.

Following reports that it has detained 10 of its officials for theft, Nigerians are calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the names and photographs of the officers involved in the activities.

Recall that after dismissing 27 officers from its workforce in 2024, the commission on Wednesday announced that it has also detained 10 of its officers for theft.

Credible sources disclosed that between $350,000 and $400,000 has reportedly gone missing, along with expensive jewellery and other high-value items.

While the investigation into the missing funds is already underway, the EFCC finds itself in a precarious position as it seeks to restore public trust.

The agency, which has long been regarded as the frontline warrior against financial crimes, is now facing scrutiny for alleged lapses in its internal controls.

As of the time of this report, efforts to reach the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, for comments on this latest debacle have been unsuccessful.

As the investigation unfolds, many are left wondering what measures will be taken to prevent future incidents and restore faith in an agency tasked with combating corruption.

According to social media users, the latest scandal serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the EFCC in its mission to uphold integrity and accountability in Nigeria’s financial system.

Reacting to the development, an X user (formerly Twitter), Asiwaju Oladimeji, queried why the commission has decided not to make public the names and pictures of the officers involved in the fraudulent act.

He wrote: “Why are their names and pictures missing from this post?

“How do you intend to gain public trust when you hide the identities of the criminals within your organization but display ordinary public suspects for crimes they are yet to be found guilty of?”

Another user, Michael Igence, stated: “You have arrested your own officers and are conducting investigations but have failed to reveal their names or pictures. When you arrest young boys for alleged fraud, even while investigations are ongoing, you plaster their names and pictures all over.”

In the same vein, Sahito wrote: “EFCC should do a newspaper publication on those assets seized and recovered from corrupt individuals. Without doing this, a lot of unaccounted items will keep missing, and nothing will be done about it.”

For Aliyu Muhammad: “As a victim of undesirable activities taking place in your operations department, I am still challenging your organization to parade them as you usually do with YAHOO BOYS.”
