1. The United Kingdom has barred foreign students from travelling with their family members. The move which affects all overseas students, apart from those on postgraduate research programmes, will take effect from January.

2. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday, absolved himself of blame in the situation that led to the relocation of the $19bn Dangote refinery from Ogun State to Lagos. Abiodun explained that he was not part of the moves that frustrated Africa’s richest man out of the state.

3. The Presidential Election Petition Court on Tuesday released the timetable for the hearing of petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party and Allied Peoples Movement seeking to invalidate the victory of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, in the February 25 election. The court announced that the hearing of the petitions would commence on May 30.

4. There was panic in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Tuesday, as about 35 pupils of Fakunle Comprehensive School, Osogbo, were hospitalised after inhaling teargas fired by some riot policemen. The pupils who became unconscious after inhaling the teargas were rushed to two different hospitals for urgent medical attention.

5. Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition, Mr. Jerry Alagbaoso, tendered his resignation on the floor of the House on Tuesday. Alagbaoso also announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. This is coming less than one month before the end of the current Assembly.

6. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, yesterday expressed his appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, for signing into law eight bills of “far-reaching impact,” one of which is the National Social Investment Establishment Act, 2023.

7. The Central Bank of Nigeria has revoked the operating licenses of 132 Microfinance Banks, three finance companies and four primary mortgage banks. The list of affected Microfinance banks include Atlas Microfinance Bank; Bluewhales Microfinance Bank; Everest Microfinance Bank; Mainsail Microfinance Bank; Nopov Microfinance Bank; Ohon Microfinance Bank; Premium Microfinance Bank and Statesman Microfinance Bank.

8. A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed ruling for Friday on an ex-parte application filed by some three individuals seeking to stop the inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu, until the determination of petitions before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC). Justice James Omotosho chose the date yesterday after listening to arguments from the applicant’s lawyer, Oliver Eya.

9. Embattled afrobeat artist, Seun Kuti has been released from police detention. The singer was remanded at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on the orders of a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting a policeman in a viral video.

10. Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected gun runner and notorious cultist, Bibi Asengbe, 38, whom the police identified as being on the command’s wanted list. Investigation revealed that the suspect was on his way to supply arms to one of his customers at Jakpa Junction Warri at a cost of N250,000 when he was nabbed.
