Labour Party Chairman has alleged APC’s plan for Presidential Election Re-Run in Nigeria.

Newsonline Nigeria reports that the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Julius Abure, has raised concerns about the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly preparing for a potential re-run of the 2023 presidential election.

This Nigeria News platform understands that Abure shared this information during an online meeting with the Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy, urging party members to remain vigilant.

The ruling party is reportedly aware of the unfavourable legal challenges it currently faces regarding the election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a recent virtual gathering, Mr. Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, disclosed that he had received information suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was gearing up for a possible re-run of the 2023 presidential election.

Abure conveyed this message during an online meeting with the Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy, led by Professor Eddie Oparaoji, the Labour Party Diaspora Chairman in the United States.

The chairman’s remarks were made in response to the ongoing legal contestation surrounding the presidential election results, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Highlighting the prevailing circumstances, Abure emphasized that the ruling party seemed to be conscious of the increasingly unfavourable situation it faced in the legal challenges.

Consequently, he called on the over 10 million members of the Labour Party to remain alert and prepared to further humiliate the APC and its government at the polls if their alleged ulterior motive failed to materialize.

Acting National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, reiterated Abure’s sentiments in a statement issued on behalf of the party.

Abure’s concerns primarily revolve around rumors suggesting that the government is already strategizing for a potential re-run. While not explicitly advocating for a re-run, he emphasized the importance of readiness and engagement in case the election is nullified.

Abure firmly believes that Peter Obi, the party’s candidate, should be declared the President of Nigeria based on the evidence and statistics available. However, if a re-run becomes necessary due to the APC’s alleged planning, the Labour Party intends to be prepared and competitive.

The Labour Party Chairman expressed confidence in the ongoing legal proceedings, stating that all the party’s evidence has been presented before the court. He remains hopeful that the tribunal and, if necessary, the Supreme Court will rule in their favour.

Abure stressed the significance of the Labour Party’s success in changing the country’s political landscape within a short period of nine months. He called for the party to build on this achievement and strategically position itself to serve the underprivileged citizens of Nigeria.
