Kwankwaso
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly considering a move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as opposition figures intensify realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reports from Kano indicate that Kwankwaso is in discussions with the ADC over a possible alliance that could include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The talks are said to be taking place amid growing indications that a significant portion of Kwankwaso’s political structure in Kano State is gravitating towards the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The potential move is also believed to involve members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Kwankwaso’s long-standing support base.
Sources said negotiations are ongoing, even as Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, is reportedly expected to defect to the APC, a development that has allegedly heightened tensions within the Kwankwasiyya camp.
Confirming the discussions, a former NNPP chieftain, Habib Hisham, who has since joined the ADC, told DAILY POST that the party is open to welcoming Kwankwaso into its fold in Kano.
“I know our party leaders are working on bringing Kwankwaso to join the ADC. We will be happy to welcome him,” Hisham said, adding that such a merger could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 elections.
