Anambra 2025 Governorship Election

INEC has published a list of candidates for Anambra 2025 Governorship election.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of candidates submitted by political parties for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

According to a statement made available to NewsOnline Nigeria on Saturday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said a total of 16 political parties successfully uploaded the names of their governorship and deputy governorship candidates to the commission’s portal before the official deadline.

Olumekun confirmed that the candidate nominations closed at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, when the commission’s dedicated portal automatically shut down. This follows the conclusion of party primaries as outlined in INEC’s Timetable and Schedule of Activities.

He further disclosed that INEC has now published the personal particulars of each candidate and their running mates. This includes the EC9 forms, academic credentials, and other submitted documents, which have been displayed at the INEC state headquarters and all 21 local government offices across Anambra State.

INEC is now calling on the public, especially participants in the party primaries, to scrutinize the documents. According to Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022, any aspirant with reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate has submitted false information can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court.

The commission also announced that the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, which is exactly 150 days before the election, in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act.

“The Anambra State Governorship Election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 8th November 2025,” Olumekun stated.
