High Court restrains Rivers Assembly from impeaching Governor Fubara

High Court has restrained Rivers Assembly from impeaching Governor Fubara.

 

Newsonline Nigeria reports that a Rivers High Court in Isiokpo Division in Ikwerre Local Government Area has issued a restraining order to the State House of Assembly and Speaker, Martin Amaewhule from impeaching the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the court issued an interim injunction prohibiting the State House of Assembly on Wednesday.

Governor Fubara filed the application ex parte earlier on Wednesday through his attorney, Damian Okoro (SAN).

The Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, the Clerk of the House, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi were also served the restraining order.

 

Presiding Judge Justice Ben Whyte issued an order directing the parties to maintain the status quo while the move-on notice was decided.

 

The motion on notice was then postponed until November 14, 2023.
