FCCPC has sealed Ikeja Electric Headquarters over consumer rights violations.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the headquarters of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) located in Alausa, Lagos, over alleged violations of consumer rights.

Although full details of the infractions remain unclear, the Commission said the enforcement action followed IKEDC’s repeated failure to comply with directives aimed at protecting consumers.

FCCPC’s Director of Surveillance and Investigation, Bola Adeyinka, said the action was taken pursuant to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.

According to Adeyinka, the Commission resorted to sealing the facility only after several engagements and multiple opportunities granted to the company to voluntarily comply.

“Sealing this facility is a proportionate enforcement measure taken only after repeated engagement and several opportunities for voluntary compliance,” she said.

“The seal will remain in place until Ikeja Electric complies fully with the directives issued by both NERC and the FCCPC and provides written evidence of that compliance.”

As of press time, Ikeja Electric has not issued an official response. Attempts by Nairametrics to reach the company’s spokesperson were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
