Newsonline Nigeria reports that former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has voiced his support for Erik ten Hag’s side to claim the UEFA Europa League title this season. The ex-England international is optimistic about the Red Devils’ chances, especially after a lackluster performance in both the Champions League and Premier League last term, where they failed to impress.
With the Europa League set to begin this Wednesday, Manchester United will host Twente at Old Trafford in their opening match. Hargreaves believes this tournament presents a significant opportunity for the team to secure silverware.
“I think when you’re in the Champions League and not performing at the level of the other teams, you get exposed quickly,” Hargreaves told Metro UK. “Last year was quite disappointing due to the issues they faced in the Champions League, which highlighted some weaknesses in the squad. However, I see winning the Europa League as a super realistic goal for them, given the talent they have at their disposal.”
He emphasized that the current squad is equipped to compete effectively in the Europa League, stating, “I believe United is in a strong position right now, and they have the potential to go all the way in that competition.” With Hargreaves’ endorsement, hopes are high for Manchester United as they embark on their Europa League campaign.
