EPL: Phil Jones Claims Ex-Man Utd Manager Humiliated Him, Sparks Rage

Jones shares his emotional struggle following the treatment he received during his time at Manchester United

Phil Jones has discussed his difficult relationship with a former Manchester United manager, expressing feelings of humiliation that left him feeling enraged. In a candid interview, the defender highlights how the manager’s treatment affected both his career and personal well-being.

Newsonline Nigeria reports that Phil Jones, the former Manchester United defender, has expressed his anger over being ‘humiliated’ by ex-manager Ralf Rangnick during the final stages of his challenging tenure at the club.

After joining Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, Jones dedicated over a decade to the team. During his time, he made 229 appearances and celebrated victories, including the Premier League trophy in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in 2013, as well as the FA Cup and Europa League.

In a recent interview on the High-Performance podcast, Jones recounted a particularly emotional moment: “I’ve never lost my composure in a dressing room, but that was the only time in my career I completely lost it. I was absolutely raging. Raging. He humiliated me in front of an Anfield crowd, fearsome rivals, and my family.”

Reflecting on the match, Jones noted, “We were 2-0 down at half-time and hadn’t managed a shot on target. I felt I was performing decently, but at the break, Ralf said, ‘I’m going to make a change; Phil’s coming off.’ The whole dressing room reacted with shock.”

Feeling disrespected, he recalled slamming his boots on the floor and stating, “You’re taking the p*** out of me.” He added, “Everyone told me to calm down. Even now, thinking about it makes me irate.”

Afterward, Jones acknowledged his outburst, saying, “I apologized later, stating it was out of character for me and I shouldn’t have reacted that way at that moment.”
