Court has issued arrest warrant for Rahmat Animashaun over perjury and false accusation charges.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a Lagos High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Rahmat Animashaun after she failed to appear in court on July 9, 2025, in connection with a criminal case filed by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Justice Ibikunke Harrison, who presides over the matter, ordered that Animashaun be arrested and brought before the court on the next adjourned date September 29, 2025 and on every other scheduled date until further notice.

Four-Count Charge Against Rahmat Animashaun

The state has leveled a four-count charge against Animashaun, including:

  1. Perjury (Section 86, Lagos Criminal Law)

  2. Bringing false accusations

  3. Making false statements to public officers (Section 96)

  4. Attempting to pervert the course of justice (Section 97(3))

The charges stem from events that occurred in November and December 2022.

  • In Count 1, Animashaun is accused of giving knowingly false testimony at the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, in a bid to initiate judicial proceedings against one Adewale Olatunji.

  • Count 2 alleges that she falsely caused Olatunji to be wrongly charged with serious offences, including defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration under Sections 137 and 261 of Lagos State Criminal Law.

  • Count 3 accuses her of deliberately misleading public officers, including personnel of the Nigeria Police and officials of the Lagos DPP.

  • Count 4 involves an alleged attempt to pervert the course of justice, further compounding the seriousness of the charges.

Arrest Order Issued

With her residential address listed as The Orchard, 22B Onef Yesufy Abiodun Way, Oniru, Lagos, the court has instructed law enforcement agencies to arrest and bring her to court.

The prosecution is being led by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for Lagos State. Meanwhile, the defendant has yet to enter a formal plea, as her absence continues to delay proceedings.

Justice Harrison’s bench warrant signals a firm stance against acts of judicial manipulation and obstruction of justice.
