Chess Master Tunde Onakoya has bagged a top government appointment.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Chess Master Tunde Onakoya has bagged a top government appointment following his impressive feat in the US.

 

This Nigeria news platform understands that Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun appointed Onakoya the State Sports Ambassador in recognition of his recent record-breaking chess marathon at Times Square, New York.

In a meeting on Thursday with the Chess Master, Governor Abiodun commended Onakoya’s global achievements, attributing them to determination, resilience, and hard work. “This could not have been possible without determination, resilience, and hard work,” he remarked.

 

Highlighting Onakoya’s role as a motivational figure, the Governor praised his inspirational impact on the youth nationwide. “I can see why you continue to be an inspiration to many young people across the length and breadth of this country,” Governor Abiodun stated.

 

He commended Onakoya’s Chess in Slums Africa initiative, aimed at empowering underprivileged children by sharing his own story of overcoming adversity.

In light of Onakoya’s appointment, Governor Abiodun announced plans for the Ogun State Chess Competition, aimed at discovering new talents and featuring the Tunde Onakoya Prize for the winner. Reflecting on Onakoya’s journey, Governor Abiodun emphasized the universal lesson that life does not discriminate based on background or status.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Onakoya shared his journey from poverty to prominence through chess and discussed his efforts to promote the game internationally, including collaborations with partners like Lufthansa Airlines.

 

Onakoya reiterated his commitment to using chess as a tool for youth empowerment and thanked Governor Abiodun for his support.
