Two Nigerian Judges reportedly died mysteriously on the same day.

Newsonline Nigeria reports that two Nigerian Judges, Hon Justice Peter Hoommuk Mallong and colleague, Justice Chima Centus (CC) Nweze mysteriously died the same day.

The Nigerian Judges, Justice Peter Hoommuk Mallong of the Federal High Court Abuja died on Sunday while his colleague at the Supreme Court, Justice Chima Centus (CC) Nweze also died the same day.

The Nigerian Judges died less than 48 hours after the court commenced its yearly vacation for judges and had since thrown the judiciary into a state of mourning.

In a statement by the Chief Registrar of the Court, Hassan Amida Suleiman confirming the death of Justice Peter Hoommuk Mallong, it read, “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our own, Hon. Justice Peter Hoommuk Mallong, a Judge of the Federal High Court.

“Justice Mallong passed away on 30th July 2023, unexpectedly after a brief illness in Abuja. We will miss him more than words can express.

“Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due time.”

On the other hand, the death of Justice Nweze who died at the age of 64 and was famous for his dissenting judgment in 2020 declaring Emeke Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the 2019 Governorship election in Imo, is yet to be officially announced.

Newsonline Nigeria recalls that, in a split judgment of three against two, Nweze delivered the controversial judgment of the Supreme Court which declared then Senate President, Ahmad Lawan as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Yobe North Senatorial District for the 25 February general election.

Justice Nweze, a native of Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was born on September 25, 1958.

In 2014, Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration approved the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) to appoint Nweze to the supreme court.
