President Tinubu
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the growing burden of rising fuel prices on Nigerians and has begun implementing measures aimed at reducing the impact on citizens.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Jigawa State, and made available to journalists.
According to the statement, the governor, Umar Namadi, revealed the president’s position during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Dutse, shortly after receiving the Emir of Dutse and other traditional leaders at the Hawan Bariki Durbar on Saturday.
Namadi stated that the president is deeply concerned about the rising cost of petroleum products and has directed steps to cushion the effects, particularly in the transportation sector.
He explained that the recent increase in fuel prices, linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East has placed additional pressure on Nigerians, especially in transportation costs and the general cost of living.
“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” Namadi said.
The governor added that part of the intervention plan includes exploring alternative measures to lower transportation costs, which have surged following the fuel price hike.
He further noted that the Jigawa State Government would complement the Federal Government’s efforts by introducing policies and support programmes aimed at easing the economic pressure on residents.
