Popular Lagos Monarch, Olu of Epe Kingdom is dead.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Olu of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, has been confirmed dead. The revered monarch reportedly passed away in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 86.

This Nigeria news platform gathered that the late king, who was the 19th ruler of the Epe Kingdom, will be laid to rest later today according to Islamic rites.

High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, Musiliu Adeniyi, confirmed the monarch’s passing on Saturday.

“The news is true. It was this morning. He will be buried 4 o’clock today,” Adeniyi said.

Before ascending the throne, Oba Adewale held several prominent traditional titles. He first served as the Otun-Balogun, the third-highest chieftaincy title in Epe, and was later elevated to the position of Balogun before being crowned Olu of Epe.

Outside his royal duties, the late monarch had a distinguished career in public service. He retired as a Director of Administration in the Ministry of Education and also served as Executive Secretary at the Ministry of Lands.
