Northern Leaders have asked President Tinubu to sack and arrest FCT Minister, Wike.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) has demanded the arrest and sacking of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, over what they described as a threat to democracy.

The NYLF, comprising almost 50 youth groups from the 19 Northern states and FCT made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 4.

Recall that Wike, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, publicly threatened to cause a crisis of whatever form in the PDP-controlled states because the PDP governors expectedly identified with one of them in the Rivers State political crisis.

Following this, the group described the statements made by the FCT Minister, Barr. Wike, as grave and dangerous, adding that the Northern Youth viewed this statement as a call for anarchy, a threat to democracy, highly provocative, and an invitation to chaos that may completely erase whatever gains the democratic dispensation has achieved or recorded and which also threatens the very fabric of our national cohesion, unity, and progress.

“The Northern Youth are concerned with the silence and inaction of the Federal Government and the Security Agencies, who have turned a deaf ear and blind eye to these inimical, ruthless, arrogant, proud, boastful, and irresponsible utterances of Barr. Wike, which are capable of scuttling and destroying the trust and confidence we have in this administration,” the statement said.

According to the statement titled “ARREST NYESOM WIKE NOW,” the group categorically demanded the immediate arrest of Barrister Wike.

“We demand that the Federal Government direct the Security Agencies to arrest Barr. Wike and have him sign an undertaking that he will not in any way initiate or carry out his threat and that he will be held responsible for any crisis in the PDP-controlled states.

“Otherwise, we will invariably believe that the Federal Government is complicit and is also backing Wike to cause crises in these states as he is currently doing in Rivers State,” NYLF said.

The group further demanded that Wike be dropped from the Federal Executive Council, even as they called on the PDP to suspend the FCT Minister.

It stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should, as a matter of necessity and urgency, suspend Barr. Wike indefinitely and ban him from convening or attending party meetings at all levels.

“Consequently, we want to categorically state that the Northern Youth are strongly and firmly behind the Senator Bala Mohammed-led PDP Governors Forum as far as this matter is concerned and will do everything humanly possible within the confines of the law to support the Forum in any capacity or form,” the group assured.

They reiterated their total and unflinching support for Governor Fubara and their Ijaw counterparts in this regard.
