FG has withdrawn criminal charges against Ibom Air Passenger, Comfort Emmanson.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has announced the withdrawal of criminal charges against Ms. Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in a recent unruly conduct case aboard an Ibom Air flight.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, in a statement on Wednesday, said the decision followed consultations with key stakeholders, appeals from well-meaning Nigerians, and remorse shown by those involved in the recent spate of airport incidents.

According to Keyamo, Ibom Air has agreed to withdraw its complaint against Emmanson, paving the way for her release from Kirikiri Prison this week. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has also accepted a ministerial appeal to lift the lifetime flying ban imposed on her.

In a related development, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced the flight ban on music star Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1) to one month and will withdraw its criminal complaint. KWAM 1 is set to work with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as an ambassador for airport security protocol.

Additionally, ValueJet’s Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba will have their licenses restored after a one-month suspension and mandatory professional re-appraisal.

Keyamo ordered an immediate retreat for aviation security personnel next week to improve strategies for handling disruptive passengers and de-escalating tense situations.

The minister stressed that the decisions were made on compassionate grounds but warned that the government would not compromise on safety and security in the aviation sector going forward.
