Atiku Abubakar has revealed the real reasons for dumping PDP.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), bringing to an end his decades-long association with the party he helped to establish.

In a resignation letter dated July 14, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, Atiku announced his immediate withdrawal from the party, citing deep concerns over the party’s current direction.

“I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” Atiku stated.

Atiku, who served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007 and was the party’s presidential candidate in 2019 and 2023, reflected on his long-standing relationship with the PDP, expressing both appreciation and disappointment.

“Serving two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and being a presidential candidate twice has been one of the most significant chapters of my life,” he wrote. “As a founding father of this esteemed party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.”

He explained that his departure stems from what he sees as a deviation from the PDP’s foundational values and principles.

“I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for,” Atiku added. “It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.”

Despite his decision to exit, the former PDP stalwart extended well wishes to the party and its leadership, thanking them for the opportunities and support over the years.

“I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support,” he concluded.

The resignation letter was officially received and acknowledged by Hammardama Abubakar on July 14, 2025, marking a significant political development in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.
