Army Brigade Commander has reportedly been killed after Boko Haram/ISWAP ambush in Borno state.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a senior Nigerian Army officer, Brigadier General M. Uba, Commander of the 25 Brigade, has reportedly been killed after Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists ambushed his patrol team in Wajiroko, located in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack occurred on Friday, and although the Army initially confirmed the deaths of two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), it denied reports that the Brigade Commander had been captured or killed, describing earlier claims as misinformation.

However, fresh claims indicate that General Uba was captured alive after sustaining gunshot wounds during the confrontation. Sources said he attempted to lead his men out of the ambush site but was overpowered as terrorists reportedly pursued him after discovering he had escaped the initial attack.

In a statement circulated by the terrorist group, they claimed responsibility for capturing the senior officer:

“By the grace of God Almighty, the soldiers of the Caliphate were able to capture a ‘Brigade Commander’ in the apostate Nigerian Army the day before yesterday after he fled from an ambush…” the group said.

They further claimed that the commander was interrogated and later executed.

A photograph released on social media by the terrorists appears to show the General with his hands tied in an undisclosed location.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military has not issued an updated statement addressing the new claims or confirming the death of Brigadier General Uba.
