Legendary Nigerian Film Maker has been confirmed dead by daughter, the industry mourns her lose

 

NewsOnline reports the sudeen demise of legendary film maker, Biyi Bandele, who was confirmed dead on the 7th of August 2022, by his daughter, Temi Bandele.

Nigerian film makers have continued to mourn the demise of the legendary film maker, the recent name on the list of industry colleagues who have joined the list of mourners is, popular film maker Mo Abudu and streaming giant Netflix.

popular streaming platform, Netflix via a heartfelt post on its Nigerian social media handles, the Streaming platform described Bandele’s death as a “monumental loss” to the Nigerian film industry.

“Biyi Bandele’s passing is a monumental loss to Nigeria’s film and creative industry. He will be remembered as a powerhouse who made some of the finest films out of Africa. As we mourn him, we commiserate with his family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in power.”

EbonyLife CEO, Mo Abudu on the other hand, had this to say about the legendary Film maker “It is with deep sadness that we commiserate with the family of Biyi Bandele who died on Sunday, 7th August 2022 in Lagos,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Biyi worked with us at EbonyLife Media, directing several of our projects, including ‘Fifty’ (2015), ‘Blood Sisters’, episodes 1 & 2 (2022) and the forthcoming film Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman, for which he wrote the screenplay. Elesin Oba will is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival later next month.

 

“Biyi had an eye for a story, was always passionate about his work, and had a great love for Yoruba culture. We will miss his dedication, cheerful spirit and collaborative nature. Rest in peace, dear friend.”

The lose can best be described as gravy, as the film maker has been responsible for directing some of the industry’s biggest and most talked about movies, including 2013’s Chimamanda’s “Half of a yellow sun”.
