Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has opened up on staying at the Etihad Stadium amid interest in him from Barcelona.

Newsonline Bernardo was the hero for Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday as the Blues played their part in a six-goal thriller at St James’ Park.

City had taken the lead early on through Ilkay Gundogan but found themselves 2-1 down at the break thanks to goals from Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson.

Things got worse for Pep Guardiola’s side after half-time as Kieran Trippier’s stunning free-kick gave the Toon Army a firm advantage. However, Erling Haaland was on hand to reduce the arrears on the hour mark before Bernardo broke the offside trap to slot home and ensure the points were shared.

City’s 28-year-old had not started either of the Blues’ first two matches of the Premier League season and has been linked this summer with a move to La Liga.

Guardiola joked earlier this week that Bernardo would definitely be playing in a match with Barca involved but for City when they meet in a friendly on Wednesday.
