#Anambradecides: Peter Obi, Moghalu Cast Votes, Raise Alarm Over Massive Vote Buying

Peter Obi and LP Candidate George Moghalu have cast their votes while decrying rampant vote buying in Anambra Governorship Election.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, and the party’s 2025 Anambra governorship candidate, George Moghalu, have raised alarms over alleged widespread vote-buying in the ongoing election across the state.

Both politicians, after casting their votes, expressed concern that the disturbing trend could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

Moghalu, who voted at Polling Unit 017, Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi North LGA, told journalists that reports of voters being offered between ₦10,000 and ₦15,000 were rampant in several communities.

“Poverty has been weaponised for massive vote buying. If you monetise your process and weaponise poverty, what is free about the election?” Moghalu lamented, stressing that the practice erodes democracy and fairness.

Peter Obi, who voted at Umudimakasi, Agulu Ward 2, Polling Unit 008, in Anaocha LGA, also condemned the reported cases of vote buying and electoral malpractice. The former Anambra governor urged voters to reject inducements and exercise their civic duty in good conscience.

Both Obi and Moghalu called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to uphold transparency, protect the integrity of the polls, and ensure that voters are allowed to cast their ballots freely without intimidation or manipulation.
