2023: “I Was Initially Interested In Working With LP – Kwankwaso

Kwankwaso gives details as to why the merger with Labour Party didn’t work.

NewsOnline reports that the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has given more details as to why a proposed merger with Labour Party, LP and its presidential candidate didn’t work out.

He said his talk with the Labour Party couldn’t reach a compromise because the party’s media hype was already at its peak.

Kwankwaso made this revelation while speaking at the Chatham House in London on Wednesday.

He said: “On Labour Party, I was initially interested in working with them.

“But at that time, they were at peak of the media hype and we couldn’t reach a compromise. Our party (NNPP) is a national party, and we’re commanding the support of the masses.”

Kwankwaso added: “If you have a party which is based on ethnicity and religion, that is the difference between the Labour party and our party, which is a national party, New Nigeria Peoples Party.”

Kwankwaso, in July, dismissed the chances of becoming a running mate to Labour Party (LP) flagbearer, Peter Obi.

The former Kano State governor had declared this while addressing journalists during the inauguration of the party’s office in Gombe State on Saturday.

He noted that accepting to be the running mate to any presidential candidate would lead to the collapse of the NNPP.

Kwankwaso said his political profile built over the years and his wealth of experience having served in various capacities in the country had helped in bringing NNPP to limelight within a short time.

Rather, he asked the people of the South-East to support his presidential bid so that the region would have the “golden opportunity” to provide the next President after him.
