Chief Emeka Ihedioha has broken his silence on the vice-presidential slot for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the fight for Igbo votes continue.

Newsonline reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  had shortlisted Emeka Ihedioha, Ifeanyi Okowa as the possible candidates for the post of Vice president in the build up to the 2023 general election.

While Ifeanyi Okowa, the incumbent governor of Delta state is in the mind of the delegates, careful consideration is being given to Emeka Ihedioha, because he is an Igbo man, from the South-East, unlike, Okowa, who is from Delta State.

Sources revealed that while the Ihedoha will not take much to be sold to Ndigbo as their son, it will be a heavy task to do so for Ifeanyi Okowa.

Another source stated that the role of Ihedioha in emergence of Atiku as the presidential candidate was very important, just as his being an Igbo man.

Stating that the Peoples Democratic Party needs an Igbo Vice president to appeal to the Igbo following perceived wrong done to Peter Obi.

According to a source, Emeka Ihedioha, mobilized votes for Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto State, following their good working relationship at the House of Representatives.

The votes Ihedioha mobilized for Tambuwal, was what the Sokoto State governor gave to Atiku, when he stepped down at the dying minutes before the election. Read more

Reacting to the choice of Ihedioha as the preferred Vice presidential candidate of Atiku Abubakar, media aide to the former governor of Imo state, AIC Akwarandu, said, ” Ihedioha is not Vice President. Atiku is yet to choose. However, his name is among those being tipped for it, which he has been indifferent about.”

The former Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, who has been trending on social networks since Wednesday, said, “Honestly, I am not aware of any action in that direction.”

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are fighting hard to get votes of Ndigbo. The South-East part of Nigeria, since the return to democracy, has been a strong support for the PDP in their 16 years rule.

Things seems to be falling apart in the long held relationship, following the resignation Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, who was Atiku’s Vice presidential candidate in the 2019 general election.

Newsonline reported that Peter Obi resigned from the PDP, citing ideological differences; he has however gotten the presidential ticket of Labour Party. Read more.
