The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the Nigerian voting public that the era of manipulation of results was over, stating that the 2023 election results cannot be manipulated.

Newsonline reports that the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said though the commission is guaranteeing Nigerians of transparent 2023 election, the commission is not sitting on its oars.

The Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu stated this on Friday in Abuja at the Launch of the Election Results Analysis Dashboard (ERAD) Report on Electronic Transmission of Results organized by Yiaga Africa.

The commission chairman stated that with the new Electoral Act, 2022, they have become empowered to adopt electronic means for both accreditation and results management.

Yakubu added that another milestone was the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) which he said has increased confidence in the electoral process.

He explained that BVAS identifies and accredits voters through fingerprint and facial recognition, as well as capture and upload images of the Polling Unit result form (Form EC8A) to the IReV portal.

Yakubu further assured that falsification of scores at Polling Units, falsification of the number of accredited voters, collation of false results, mutilation of results and computational errors, swapping of result sheets, forging result sheets, snatching and destruction of result sheets are over.

The INEC chairman promised Nigerians that “The commission has increased the transparency and confidence of the public in its election result management processes.”

Yakubu revealed that the server of the commission has been threatened by cyber hackers but promised that the electoral body will not relent.

“I can confidently say that the days of wanton manipulation of election results are over; yet, the commission is not resting on its oars,” Yakubu said.
