The Zamafara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has banned motorcycles from plying some designated areas of the state and also ordered security agencies to shoot on sight offenders of the new law.

Newsonline reports that the Zamafara governor also ordered hotel owners in the capital to ensure they get adequate information about their customers following intelligent reports that most of the bandits plan their operations in hotels.

Governor Bello Mattawale gave the order on Tuesday in Gusau in a state broadcast stating that from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. all motorcycles are banned from plying in Gusau town.

The new security order affects areas such as Mareri, Damba, Tsunami, Tsauni, Barakallahu, Samaru, Gada Biyu, and Janyau East.

He said: “Considering the recent invasion of bandits in some areas on the outskirts of Gusau, the state capital, riding of motorcycles is hereby banned from 8 pm to 6 am in all areas and outskirts of Gusau town.

“Security forces are hereby ordered to shoot anyone riding a motorcycle between 8 pm and 6 am on the outskirt of Gusau, who refuses to stop when ordered to do so by them.”

Governor Matawalle called on members of the public to be vigilant and report security threats to security agencies; stating that the state government will not take it lightly with anyone found disturbing the peace and security of the people.

“Meanwhile, members of the public have been implored to be vigilant in their localities and report to security agencies any suspicious person or strange movement in their respective communities,” he said.

He added, “My administration is doing everything humanly possible in accordance with the laws of the land to ensure the discharge of this responsibility.”

On hotel owners, Matawalle stated, “This measure is part of the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity in the state, as government is concerned over the usage of hotels by terrorists and criminals to perpetrate their heinous activities in the state.
