Newsonline Nigeria reports that Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has shared details about his recent transfer to Saudi club Al-Khaloood. The move, which took place last month, saw Troost-Ekong leave PAOK, the champions of the Greek Super League, for the Saudi Arabian side.
This transfer was first rumored during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, marking a significant shift in Troost-Ekong’s career from European football to the growing league in the Middle East.
Troost-Ekong revealed that the offer from Saudi Arabia was too enticing for him to refuse.
The 31-year-old, who previously played for Watford, emphasized the importance of securing his future. “I received an offer that was simply too good to pass up. At 31, I need to consider the bigger picture,” Troost-Ekong shared on the Counter Attack Podcast.
He acknowledged the competitiveness of the Saudi Premier League, noting the presence of top-tier players such as Benzema, Kante, and Fabinho. “The league is highly competitive, and in my first game, I played alongside world-class players,” he said.
Troost-Ekong also highlighted the opportunity to provide for his family. “It’s not just about the football; it’s also about ensuring a secure future for my family and children.”
