1. The Federal Government has commenced moves to avert the planned strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, by initiating high-level discussions with the doctors,
NARD had on Saturday given the Federal Government two weeks to meet its demands or face industrial disharmony.
2. No fewer than 17 buildings have been marked for demolition in Uli community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. According to the state police command, the buildings have been harbouring criminals, especially unknown gunmen, disturbing the peace of the state.
3. Bandits have released 74 persons out of the 85 kidnapped victims of Wanzamai village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. An indigene of the area, Abubakar Na’allah, told reporters that the 74 victims were released on Friday night, adding that the remaining 11 persons were yet to be seen.
4. Some parents of stranded Nigerian students in Sudan are considering transporting their children to Port Sudan, a city still operating international flights in the war-torn county. This followed the refusal of Egyptian authorities to allow Nigerians entry into their country despite repeated pleas.
5. Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has said the incoming government in Kano will revisit the dethronement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, 14th Emir of Kano.
6. 48 hours after it revoked the permission granted to the organised labour from using Eagles Square for the 2023 May Day, otherwise known as Workers Day celebration, the Federal Government has said the use of the venue is sacrosanct. The reversal was announced by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, via a statement yesterday.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the postponement of the 2023 Population and Housing Census. The census earlier scheduled for May 3 to 7, 2023, according to a statement by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, was postponed to a date to be determined by the incoming administration.
8. Five children were among 16 victims killed in a road accident after two vehicles collided at Ode-Omu along Gbongan-Osogbo road on Friday evening. Eyewitnesses said the two vehicles had a head-on collision and the bus veered off the road somersaulting before it went up in flames.
9. The Jigawa State High Court sitting at Ringim, presided over by Justice Ahmad Abubakar has convicted and sentenced four men to death by hanging for murder.
The convicts are Salahu Yau, Aminu Salmanu, Salmanu Shafi’u and Yusuf Sale
10. The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested a couple for allegedly planning to extort N5m from their relatives by faking their kidnap. The command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday.
