The Alternative Bank has expanded Walk4ZeroPlastic Campaign to Abuja and Kano.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Alternative Bank (AltBank) is taking its fight against plastic pollution beyond Lagos, with new Walk4ZeroPlastic campaigns scheduled for Abuja and Kano. The initiative, designed to curb Nigeria’s mounting plastic waste crisis, will engage communities through symbolic walks, market cleanups, and public sensitization drives.

The Abuja leg will hold on Saturday, September 27, 2025, starting from Yoruba Mosque and ending at Wuse Market, while Kano will host its event on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Both cities—already grappling with severe waste management challenges—will see market traders, government agencies, volunteers, and corporate partners mobilized for collective action.

“Plastic pollution is choking our cities, but together, we can turn the tide,” said Garba Mohammed, Executive Director (North), The Alternative Bank. “Abuja and Kano are ready to show that collective action can make Nigeria’s markets and streets cleaner, safer, and more sustainable.”

The Lagos edition of Walk4ZeroPlastic earlier this year drew over 300 participants and earned commendation from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources for driving environmental consciousness.

The upcoming extensions will be delivered in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Daar Communication Group, Business Day Foundation, and the Kano State Ministry of Environment. Other supporters include Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Sterling One Foundation, Made by Nigeria (MBN), Kidney Care Hospital, the Sterling Sustainability Working Group, and The Alternative Foodbank.

Through Walk4ZeroPlastic, AltBank seeks to promote sustainable waste management, encourage responsible consumption, and drive long-term behavioural change across Nigerian communities.
