2027 Presidential Ambitions Divide Coalition

Tensions has erupted in ADC as Atiku, and Obi among others 2027 presidential ambitions divide coalition.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition is facing internal turmoil as presidential ambitions of top political figures spark fierce power struggles ahead of the 2027 general election.

With less than two years to the polls, divisions are deepening within the alliance as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi jostle for dominance with each eyeing the coalition’s ticket to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the APC.

Despite Atiku’s yet-to-be-declared bid, Obi and Amaechi have publicly confirmed their interest. Obi insists he is running, firmly rejecting claims of being anyone’s running mate. Amaechi, meanwhile, pledges to serve only one term if elected.

The race is already splintering the coalition:

  • Pro-Atiku factions cite his vast network and experience.

  • Obidients argue only Obi can unite and energize Nigeria’s youth.

  • Amaechi’s allies are banking on strategic delegate support.

Veteran journalist Dele Momodu has thrown his weight behind Atiku, claiming the former VP is best positioned to win. In contrast, Obi’s camp, led by Yunusa Tanko, says Obi’s candidacy offers the strongest hope for unity and credible leadership.

Political commentator Nduka Odo warns the coalition could fracture, especially if the influential and independent Obidient movement feels sidelined. According to him, while Atiku and Amaechi’s supporters may compromise, Obi’s base may not.

The battle has spilled onto social media, where supporters are locked in fierce debates, threatening to overshadow efforts to build a united front.

As consultations continue, all eyes remain on whether the ADC can overcome its internal rift—or implode before it even challenges Nigeria’s ruling party.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
