Submission of names before deadline, no going back , INEC tells APC, as it prepares to hold its primary election next week.

 

Newsonline reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it is not going back on the scheduled date for all political parties to submit names of their candidates for the 2023 general election.

 

INEC said it was important to emphasize the need to meet the deadline given to ensure a hitch free 2023 election.

 

The electoral body said political parties that are yet to conduct their primaries are advised to put measures in place to ensure that the deadline given is  met.

 

Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave the advice on Friday, in Abuja, while inspecting the training organized for political parties officials,  for the 2023 general election.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who expressed his satisfaction with the training of the political parties officials on the use of the new INEC Candidate Nomination Portal, said the aim for the training is being achieved.

 

In a statement released his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, Yakubu advised the party officials to carefully note the respective commencement dates and deadlines for the submission and uploading of the candidates’ nomination forms for the national and state elections to the portal.

 

Professor Yakubu reminded the party officials that the online submission of nomination forms EC9A, 9B, 9C, 9D and 9E presidential and national assembly elections will commence on June 10 to end on June 17; while the dates for the submission of nomination forms for governorship and state assembly candidates remains July 1 to end on July 15.

 

While reiterating the need for all political parties to be bound by the date, Yakubu said the electoral commission will always be available for all political parties to render help where there are technical hitches.

 

Newsonline had reported that the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, will be conducting their primary election on Monday, having concluded its screening for presidential aspirants. Read more
