Shockwaves in Northern Politics: Kabiru Marafa, Allies Dump APC Over Injustice and Security Failures

Kabiru Marafa and Allies have dumped APC over injustice and security failures.

In a major political shake-up, former Zamfara Central Senator Kabiru Marafa has confirmed his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculation about his political future.

Marafa, who coordinated the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign in Zamfara, disclosed his exit in a text message to Channels Television on Sunday, without specifying personal reasons for leaving.

The move follows a meeting of Marafa’s political structure last week, where leaders unanimously resolved to defect from the APC, citing injustice, neglect, and worsening insecurity in Zamfara State.

In a communiqué signed by Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara and Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe, the group voiced deep concerns over the state’s deteriorating security situation, highlighting Zamfara as the worst-hit state for kidnappings nationwide. They accused the federal government of politicising insecurity during the Kaura Namoda bye-election, alleging that security forces were deployed to ensure an APC victory rather than protect citizens.

On political appointments, the group criticised the marginalisation of Zamfara, noting that while other North-West states secured multiple ministerial slots, Zamfara received only one. They also lamented the lack of federal intervention in communities devastated by bandit attacks.

This defection adds to a recent wave of high-profile departures from the APC in the North, as several party stalwarts and local leaders have exited over perceived marginalisation and mismanagement.

The statement concluded that Marafa and his allies will soon announce their next political move, “in line with the aspirations of Zamfara people.”
