President Tinubu has transferred NEMA and NAHCON to the Vice President’s Office.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to be placed under the supervision of the Office of the Vice President. This decision aligns with the respective establishment Acts governing the two agencies.

This online newspaper understands that until now, NEMA operated under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, while NAHCON fell under the purview of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In a statement released on Tuesday by Mr. Olusola Abiola, the Director of Information in the Office of the Vice President, it was announced that the President also sanctioned the establishment of a formal structure for the Office of the Vice President.

Additionally, an appropriate number of technical and administrative aides will be assigned to assist the Vice President in the effective discharge of his duties.

This decision marks a strategic move to streamline the oversight and coordination of NEMA and NAHCON by placing them directly under the purview of the Vice President’s office. The change in supervision aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the agencies in carrying out their respective mandates.

The President’s approval of a formal structure for the Vice President’s Office, along with the allocation of necessary personnel, further strengthens the Vice President’s capacity to fulfil his responsibilities and serve the nation diligently.

The implementation of these measures signifies the government’s commitment to optimizing governance structures and ensuring seamless operations within key agencies responsible for emergency management and the coordination of Hajj activities in Nigeria.
