Northern Youth Council of Nigeria has warned that its members will not allow the campaign of Igbo presidential candidates in the 19 Northern states.

Newsonline reports that the Arewa Youth wing said it was out to disrupt any campaign of any Igbo presidential candidate campaign in any of the Northern states.

Comrade Isah Abubakar, the President of NYCN, made the statement in reaction to the statement credited to the Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro.

In a statement, the Igbo apex socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze, said the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to elect Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general election showed the party as a “Norther Party”. Read more

Ohanaeze maintained that the decision was against Ndigbo, which has never led the nation since the return of democratic rule in 1999.

Calling the candidacy of Atiku an unpatriotic act of some Northern politicians against the South, Ohanaeze said it would mobilize Ndigbo to ensure that Atiku will not emerge as president of the country.

In reaction to the statement, Comrade Isah Abubakar, the NYCN, said that the threat of Ohanaeze has shown the body as an unpatriotic association.

Isa Abubakar said the statement has confirmed that Ohaneze is an agent of disunity in the Nigerian nation.

While calling on the elders of the South-East to call Ohanaeze to order, Abubakar said, if Ohanaeze does not retract the statement that can cause disunity in the coming 2023 general election, Arewa youths will not allow any Igbo presidential candidate to campaign in any of the 19 Northern states.

Comrade Isah Abubakar, said, ” “If they don’t do the needful, we may be forced to also take drastic action against South East presidential candidates. We won’t allow them to set their foot on our land. Otherwise, the consequences will be grave. It is time radical and ethnic chauvinistic groups like the Ohanaeze are cut to size.”

Newsonline had reported that Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria won the PDP, presidential primary election with a total vote of over 300 against the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. Read more
