Obidient Movement Meets El-Rufai in Abuja, Eyes Strategic Alliances Ahead of 2027 Elections

Obidient Movement mets El-Rufai in Abuja for a strategic alliances ahead of 2027 elections in focus.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, under the umbrella of the Obidient Movement, have opened fresh political engagements with former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in what appears to be part of broader bridge-building efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The closed-door meeting, which took place on Saturday at El-Rufai’s Abuja residence, was described as a “strategic dialogue” aimed at strengthening democracy through electoral reforms, voter education, and national unity.

Confirming the development, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, said the former governor was not only a long-time friend but also an influential northern leader whose often-misunderstood views hold weight in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“I had a warm and engaging meeting with my senior brother, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai,” Yunusa said. “He remains a strong and influential voice in the north. Though sometimes controversial, his passion for good governance aligns with the ideals of the Obidient Movement.”

He stressed that the movement’s priority remains the pursuit of “a new Nigeria that works for all,” noting that no genuine effort for national rebirth can succeed without building bridges across regions, religions, and backgrounds.

The group also unveiled two new voter-focused initiatives: “Go Get Your Permanent Voters Card (PVC)” and “GO MEND” (Get Organized, Make Election Rigging Difficult), campaigns designed to mobilize millions of Nigerians into strong voting blocs capable of protecting the integrity of the electoral process.

“Our mission is clear: to rescue and rebuild our nation. Every voice that shares this vision becomes an asset,” Yunusa added. “Together, we can, and together, we will, a new Nigeria is possible.”
