NDLEA has intercepted over 500,000 Opioid Pills and destroyed 71.5-Hectare Cannabis Farm in Nationwide Raids.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded multiple seizures and arrests across Nigeria in its ongoing clampdown on drug trafficking, intercepting hundreds of thousands of opioid pills, dismantling cannabis farms, and recovering large quantities of illicit substances.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said operatives on Friday, August 29, intercepted 104,900 capsules of tramadol concealed inside a fuel tanker at the Abuja-Kaduna toll gate, leading to the arrest of a suspect.

In a separate operation in Zaria, Kaduna State, officers apprehended another suspect with 34.15kg of cannabis sativa. Similarly, in Maiduguri, Borno State, NDLEA operatives arrested a man in possession of 30,640 tramadol pills, 7,940 rohypnol tablets, and ₦7.9 million in cash.

In Anambra State, a 75-year-old man and several others were arrested with varying quantities of cannabis and opioids. In Taraba, operatives uncovered and destroyed a 71.5-hectare cannabis farm, setting ablaze over 178,000kg of cannabis.

Further coordinated operations across Nasarawa, Adamawa, Kano, Edo, Ondo, Lagos, and Ekiti states led to the recovery of over 500,000 opioid pills, processed cannabis, codeine-based syrup, and other narcotics, with multiple suspects detained.

Notably, in what was described as one of the largest seizures in Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives in Ado-Ekiti recovered 5.3kg of “Loud” and “Colorado” strains of cannabis along with a small quantity of methamphetamine.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), praised the officers for their resilience and urged them to sustain momentum under the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign. He added that alongside enforcement operations, the agency also carried out sensitization programmes in schools, religious centres, traditional institutions, and communities nationwide during the week.
