The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Progressives Party (NNPP) Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso has written to the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) stating why he did not honour the invitation extended to him.

Newsonline reports that Kwankwaso also stated that he would have sent his vice-presidential candidate to the NBA Annual General Conference, but the running mate was out of the country.

In the letter obtained by this medium, Kwankwaso said national commitment was responsible for his non-attendance.

Recall that the NBA AGC was held yesterday, Monday, in Lagos State, at Eko Hotels, where Kwankwaso and all presidential candidates, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were invited to share their manifestoes to the citizens in NBA.

In the apology letter released by Abdulmumin Jibrin, Kwankwaso spokesman for the 2023 election campaign, the former governor of Kano State said he would always partner with NBA to bring unity and prosperity to the country.

The letter read, “I write to acknowledge receipt of your letter on the above subject matter and wish to notify you of my inability to attend this very important conference as a result of other pressing national commitments.

“Under the circumstance, I would have sent my running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, to represent me and share our perspectives for a new and prosperous Nigeria. But unfortunately, he is outside the country at the moment.

“I, therefore, wish to extend my sincere apology for my inability to attend and assure you that the NNPP shares a common vision with the NBA towards a common vision of peace, unity and prosperity of our beloved country.

“While looking forward to future opportunities where we can rob minds on how to move our country forward, please accept on behalf of myself and the NNPP assurance of my esteem regards.”

Newsonline had reported that the presidential candidate of NNPP appointed Jibrin on August 17 as one of the spokesmen of his campaign council.

He announced, “I have approved the appointment of Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin and Barr. Ladipo Johnson as spokespersons for my campaign council.

“I have no doubt that the duo will use their wealth of experience in communications and vast networks to deliver on our mandate for a New Nigeria.”
