He also encouraged troops deployed in the various theatres and peacekeeping operations that would not be with their loved ones during the festive periods due to the exigency of duty.

The COAS noted that the collective efforts of the troops towards security lives and properties are appreciated by Nigerians.

He charged his officers and soldiers to be focused, disciplined and loyal to the constituted authority while ensuring that they are fully committed to achieving constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

In his address, the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Major General Faruk Mijinyawa, said that the luncheon was organised to appreciate the troops’ relentless efforts, sacrifices, and dedication throughout the year.

Mijinyawa encouraged the troops to maintain due diligence and uphold the standard of professionalism in the coming year.

He also extended prayers to the departed colleagues who passed on during the year.

Earlier in celebration of the festive season, the Headquarters 9 Brigade held an end-of-year party for the children residing in the cantonment.

The party, themed “Ikeja Cantonment End of Year Funfair,” was aimed at commemorating the holiday spirit with the children and families of all personnel residing in the Cantonment.

During his address to the children, the Commander 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Olawale Matthew Oyekola, emphasised the need for safety and security during the funfair to achieve the joyful effects of the yuletide season.
