Culture of Royalty has marked first anniversary with grand celebration in Lagos.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Culture of Royalty initiative has celebrated its first anniversary, marking one year since the historic Royal Culture Event held at the Bola Event Center, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos State, on September 1, 2024.

The milestone was commemorated by the Northern Nigeria Traditional Youth Chiefs across 17 southern states, under the leadership of the Sarkin Samarin Yamma (SSY), Southern States of Nigeria.

In a statement issued on behalf of the chiefs, Cmd. Amb. Dr. Sani Salisu Danmuttaqa, Paramount Youth Chief, was lauded for his role in turbaning and recognizing youth chiefs. This recognition, they said, has further strengthened their resolve to uphold the values of royalty, loyalty, respect, and obedience while protecting cultural heritage.

The Culture of Royalty embodies turbaning, investitures, royal outings, and the preservation of traditional ethics, attire, greetings, sounds, dance, and discipline. Beyond its ceremonial elements, the platform also seeks to address pressing social issues, including drug abuse, insecurity, youth empowerment, peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance, and the promotion of politics without bitterness.

The event also honored humanitarian efforts and celebrated the contributions of distinguished chiefs and personalities. Notable among them was Alhaji Ahmed Haruna Kuraja, Sarkin Alimosho, who emerged as the Overall Winner of the Royal Culture Award of the Year, alongside other recipients of humanitarian recognition awards.

Delivering the keynote address was Mallam Dr. Nasir Wada – Taskan Sarauta from Kano State, who highlighted the importance of cultural continuity and mutual respect. The gathering also acknowledged the absence of Sarkin Ayyukan Zauzzau, praying for his eternal rest.

Special guests included representatives of the Lagos State Government, the Deputy Senate President’s office, the Lagos State Police Command, youth organizations, spiritual leaders, and traditional rulers. Others in attendance were Mal. Abubakar Liman Wali, Lagos State NDLEA Commander; Amb. Dr. Sheik Shehu Abdulkadir Jimoh, UN Volunteer Diplomat and Sarkin Qaddiriya of Africa; and HRH Rabiu Sulaiman, Sarkin Hausawa of Kuje-Amuwo.

Tribute was paid to the late HRH Mallam Haruna Mai-Yasin Katsina, CON, remembered as a mentor and role model whose legacy of selfless leadership continues to guide Arewa communities in the South. His successor, HRH Alh. Ahmed Haruna Maiyasin Katsina II, was duly acknowledged.

The organizers expressed deep appreciation to trustees of the Sarkin Samarin Yamma Development Initiative and to Zaima Farm Limited, the official drinks sponsor of the inaugural event.

The Northern Nigeria Traditional Youth Chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to cultural preservation, respect for host community chieftaincy laws, and harmonious coexistence. They also pledged to make the second edition of the Royal Culture celebration even more remarkable.
