BREAKING: Prof. Joash Amupitan Vows to Restore Credibility in Nigeria’s Elections

New INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan has vowed to restore credibility in Nigeria’s elections ahead of 2027.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has pledged to ensure credible, free, and fair elections across Nigeria.

Speaking for the first time after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, Prof. Amupitan told INEC staff that his primary mission is to rebuild public confidence in the electoral process and assure Nigerians that their votes will truly count.

He emphasized that his immediate focus will be the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, urging all INEC officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

“One of my major priorities is staff welfare,” Amupitan said, adding that the commission will create a conducive working environment and provide adequate resources to help employees perform effectively.

Describing his appointment as “divine,” the INEC Chairman called on all staff to remain united and committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

“Let us uphold the values of democracy and work tirelessly for credible elections. We must never compromise our principles, because the integrity of our elections is not negotiable,” he declared.

Prof. Amupitan concluded by assuring Nigerians that under his leadership, INEC will operate with transparency, accountability, and renewed dedication to the nation’s democratic ideals.
