President Tinubu has broken his silence in the delayed appointment of ambassadors.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has admitted that the process of appointing new Nigerian ambassadors has been difficult and delayed, stressing that he cannot “appoint just anybody” to such sensitive positions.
Speaking in a video message, the president noted that while he still has several ambassadorial slots available, the selection process requires careful consideration.
“I couldn’t appoint everybody that I could have appointed. Thank you for your patience till now. I still have some slots for ambassadorial positions that too many people are craving for, but it’s not easy stitching together those names,” Tinubu said.

He explained that his immediate focus has been on reviving the economy and restoring hope to Nigerians before unveiling the list of ambassadors.
“First of all, cure the economy, bring hope to the people, as that is what we stopped for and that hope is here. Thank you for believing in me,” he added.
The last set of Nigerian ambassadors were appointed under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. Since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, he has yet to announce any ambassadorial appointments despite mounting pressure.
