BREAKING: NDLEA Arrests Notorious Drug Kingpin, Seizes Billions Worth of Narcotics Nationwide

Notorious Drug Kingpin

NDLEA has arrested a Notorious Drug Kingpin and seized billions worth of narcotics nationwide.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Sunday Ibigide, in Delta State, three years after he went into hiding.

The 36-year-old suspect was apprehended on August 10, 2025, while attempting to distribute 250 blocks of cannabis skunk weighing 138kg using his distribution bus. He had been on the run since March 2022 after being linked to a seizure of 24.1kg of cannabis and 10 grams of molly. An accomplice, Clement Osuya (27), was also arrested.

Massive Raids Across States

  • Enugu: NDLEA, with military and vigilante support, destroyed 37,500kg of cannabis farms spanning 15 hectares and arrested six suspects. Another 74.5kg was recovered. Officers also seized 20,700 pills of tramadol and cocodamol from Emmanuel Ayogu (53), and arrested two others with 27.6kg of skunk.

  • Lagos: A mother and son duo, Muyibat and Faruk Mumuni, were caught with 149kg of “Ghana Loud” cannabis, while another suspect was nabbed with 8.5kg of Canadian Loud.

  • Rivers (Onne Port): One of the largest drug interceptions this year saw NDLEA and Customs recover 875,000 bottles of codeine syrup worth ₦6.1 billion, alongside 3.5 million pills of tramadol and benzhexol valued at ₦1.7 billion.

  • Edo: 432kg of cannabis seized on Warake–Auchi Road; 130kg recovered in Sobe.

  • Kano: Two suspects arrested with 92kg of cannabis.

  • Gombe: 128,000 tramadol capsules seized.

  • Kogi: 337,800 tramadol capsules recovered from a commercial bus.

  • Taraba: 11,250kg of cannabis farms destroyed; 29,840 tramadol capsules seized.

  • Kaduna: Four suspects nabbed with 22,640 tramadol/rohypnol pills and 111kg cannabis.

  • Lagos–Badagry Highway: NDLEA intercepted 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection, arresting Akeem Adegun.

NDLEA Reacts

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.) commended operatives across Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Edo, Gombe, Taraba, Kaduna, and Seme Commands for their dedication.

He also urged sustained vigilance while reinforcing the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through advocacy to traditional rulers, including former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, the Emir of Borgu, Emir of Lafia, and the Shehu of Borno.
