INEC has been warned against throwing Nigeria into Nepal-like crisis ahead of the 2027 elections.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to undertake urgent reforms to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.

Frank, in a statement issued on Sunday, warned that Nigeria must draw lessons from Nepal, where youth-led anti-corruption protests recently forced Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign, led to the death of his wife, Kathmandu-Rabi Laxmi Chitrakar, and resulted in the burning of parliament.

According to him, Nigeria’s democratic institutions  including INEC, the judiciary, and security agencies must strengthen their independence and uphold the rule of law to prevent similar unrest.

Frank also urged the ruling APC to desist from harassing opposition leaders, stressing that political intimidation undermines democratic stability.

“This bold and positive action should not stand alone,” he said. “As the nation looks ahead to the 2027 general elections, INEC must replicate this same spirit of independence and courage in the overall conduct of the polls.”

He further encouraged Nigerians to support the newly recognised leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as capable of driving positive change, while also urging citizens to be prepared to “vote and defend their votes” in 2027.
