FG has vowed to send Nigerian drivers to six months jail terms for making calls while driving.
Newsonline reports that President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government through the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says anyone found making or receiving calls while driving risks six months in prison.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, citing the National Road Traffic Regulation (2012) in an interview with Punch, said drivers were not allowed to make or receive calls while using any form of wired or wireless earphones and hands-free.
Mr Kazeem said it was illegal to use AirPods, EarPods, or any hands-free. “Driving entails 100 per cent concentration, so you cannot be distracted. It is there in the regulation.
“It is clear from the provisions of Reg 166 (1) that it is illegal to make phone calls using EarPods earphones or whatever means,” he said.
Mr Kazeem urged drivers to avoid any distractions, including speaking with passengers.
“The law may not make it an offence, but at the same time, it can distract you. Even changing your cassette (while driving) can distract you and result in accidents,” he told the news outlet.
