El-Rufai has vowed to ensure Tinubu’s retirement to Lagos in 2027.

NewsOnline Nigeriareports that the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that work is underway by members of the opposition coalition to return President Bola Tinubu to Lagos.

This Nigeria news platform understands that El-Rufai made the assertion at a tech event in Katsina, attended by Minister of Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani. He, however, told the minister that his job wont be affected as a result of the change of government in 2027.

El-Rufai said, “Yesterday at 8 pm, there was a very important meeting of the coalition. We are talking together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos. Though we will keep Bosun Tijani. We still need the minister because he is doing good work.”

The meeting El-Rufai referenced was attended by Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal and many others.

After the meeting, there are strong indications that the leading figures in the coalition are adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the party of choice.

Bloomberg has quoted sources in the meeting of the coalition, which was held on May 20th in Abuja, about the consensus in adopting ADC as the vehicle for the coalition, just as another online news platform, Daily Post, quoted sources who said the gladiators agreed to adopt the party.

One of the sources said: “They have adopted the African Democratic Party as the coalition party, all of them (Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai) are working together.

“They came to the conclusion at a meeting last night, which lasted up till the early hours of this morning. You know politicians meet when we are asleep.

“All the leaders and stakeholders of the coalition were there, they set up committees to dot the Is and cross the Ts while preparing the way for the eventual public unveiling of the coalition.

“But effectively, as we speak, the coalition has been born, the conclusion meeting took place.”

On the date for the official unveiling, the source said: “There is none for now, but it will be sooner than later, very soon.”
