NewsOnline reports that the UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has sent his congratulations to Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu.
This online newspaper recalls that Bola Tinubu was declared the winner of last weekend’s presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday morning.
INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, declared that Tinubu secured a total of 8,794,726 votes.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) polled 6,101,533 votes.
In a post on Twitter, Sunak said he was looking forward to working with Nigeria to grow the two country’s security and trade.
“Congratulations to @officialABAT on his victory in Nigeria.
“The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries,” Sunak tweeted.
