Newsonline reports that Governor Akeredolu stated that the issue of the Muslim-Muslim ticket fielded by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) should not be the issue, since Peter Obi is also a Southerner contesting the 2023 election.
He said that his interest is not in Peter Obi nor Tinubu, but that come the 2023 election, either Peter Obi or Tinubu, a Southerner should be the president.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) governor stated that where he stands was not on whether his party fields both religion tickets but on the turn of the South to become president come 2023 election.
Akeredolu stated this on Wednesday night while speaking on Channels Television’s live programme, Politics Today.
According to Akeredolu, since 1999, there was an understanding that the presidency of the country would be rotated between the North and the South.
The governor of Ondo stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that wants to manipulate the agreement by giving Atiku Abubakar ticket should not be allowed.
Governor Akeredolu said, “Religion is not the issue now. We have other issues that should be on the front-burner in this country. The issue of restructuring, rotational presidency, etc.
“Since 1999, there is an understanding that the presidency will be rotated between the North and South.
“So if today, we have people who want to deploy manipulation to think they can change it, then we should not accept.
“If you listened to my lecture, I said if (Peter) Obi is elected as president, for me that will be alright. If Bola Ahmed Tinubu is elected, that will be alright. For me, it must come to the South.”
