The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council have slated Ilorin, Kwara State as the place for flagging off their 2023 election campaign.
Newsonline reports that Kwara was agreed as the place of choice by the ruling party after the Wednesday meeting held in Abuja which included the Progressive Governors Forum, Presidential Campaign Council and members of the APC National Working Committee.
A source who was present in the meeting, though, prefers anonymity, disclosed that the date for the Ilorin flag-off will be announced later.
He said, “The candidate and the stakeholders deliberated consciously on the issue, considered all the odds before they finally agreed for the choice of North-Central in general and Ilorin specifically.
“It will be the starting point for our campaign before we spread into other areas. But the date has not been agreed,” he said.
Reacting to the flag-off at Ilorin, Kwara State, the spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, Festus Keyamo and the Director of Media and Publicity Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga did not refute the information. They however advised a wait until an official communication is released to the public.
Keyamo said, “We cannot confirm anything now. Though it is not a disclaimer, there is no official release on that.”
For Bayo Onanuga, “Why don’t you wait? The party will announce it. I cannot confirm anything to you on this. You guys (media) should wait for us to unveil the manifesto and the PCC this week. That’s what we plan to do first,” he stated.
Recall that in attendance at the Wednesday meeting were the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who led the NWC; Tinubu’s running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Atiku Bagudu; Deputy Director-General of the PCC, Adams Oshimhole; Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje; Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila among others.
Also, the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, the senate president, Ahmad Lawan, minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amechi, Kaduna governor, Nasir El-rufai among others who were supposed to be at the meeting did not attend.
