The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said women are more trustworthy and committed and they satisfactorily get work done in the best way expected.
Newsonline reports that Peter Obi, who is the most famous presidential candidate among all other contenders for the presidency of the country in 2023 said his trust in the capacity of women was responsible for his inclusion of 40% of women in his administration as governor of Anambra State.
The former governor of Anambra State, stated this on Tuesday while speaking at Voice Of Women VOW2022 Conference at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.
Peter Obi said, “the VOW2022 Conference and Awards indeed is timely for an agenda to be set towards having an inclusive and accountable Nigeria, from 2023.”
The Labour Party presidential candidate said Nigeria may not make progress if women which constitute about 50% of the 200 million population are not engaged in the policies and decisions making of the country.
Peter Obi who was invited to the occasion along with other presidential candidates, including Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called on women to listen and ask questions to the candidates on how they included women in their previous positions.
“This country cannot make sustainable progress if we continue to leave 50% of the population, which are women behind. As Presidential Candidates speak to Nigerian Women from across the country at this event, it is good for the women to listen to what we have to say and then look at what we did before now – our respective antecedents – when we had the opportunity to bring them to the leadership table,” Peter Obi said.
He further added that ‘Women need to vote right, looking at antecedents on inclusivity agenda. Beyond that, they must vote for candidates they can trust on the scales of capacity, competence, character and proven commitment to the yearnings of Nigerian women. Do not accept us based on what will tell you we will do: have we proven it before now?”
Speaking on how he included women in his administration as governor of Anambra State, the labour Party presidential candidate who is leading all other major contenders for the position of Nigeria presidency come 2023 general election said he increased women’s participation from the recommended 35% to 40% because of his believe in women representation and capacity.
Obi said, “I had 40% women in my cabinet in Anambra state because I have found out that women were far more committed and trustworthy. When you need work done and done satisfactorily, get a woman to do it and you will not be disappointed.”
He further promised that he is “committed to making sure that I will carry women along, bring them to the leadership table where decisions are being made, and also allowing them to utilize their potentials for the betterment of Nigeria.”
