The journey of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Ababakar, to the 2023 general election may still have many hills to climb, following revelations that the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, will be in opposition to his party and is secretly working for Peter Obi.

Newsonline reports that an unnamed source told Vanguard that the governor of Rivers State, will not cross-carpet to another party, but will play the spoiler game to the ambition of Atiku Abubakar with other party members who are aggrieved with the presidential candidate.

The PDP is yet to settle down after its presidential primary election held in May, in which Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president emerged as the candidate of the party.

The Carmel’s back got broken when Atiku ignored the recommendation of a committee on the choice of a vice-presidential candidate.

According to reports, the committee and a majority of the Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders favoured Governor Wike for the position, but Atiku chose the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Newsonline had reported that the PDP National Working Committee met at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday to resolve the issues between Atiku and Wike.

According to reports, Wike camp presented among other terms that the National Chairman of the PDP, Ayu resigns from his position.

It was also reported that Wike demanded that Atiku sign on paper that he was only going to be president of the country for a single term if he wins.

While the National Working Committee, NWC, concluded their meeting, no official statement was given on these reported demands of Wike.

Vanguard quoted a source who said: “Wike will not leave the PDP but he will act as a spoiler. Very soon, those who Atiku does not favour, whether in the choice of the campaign council or he misfires, are those Wike will latch on and use against the PDP candidate.

“He will be an opposition within the opposition.”

The source according to Vanguard added that Wike is secretly working for the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Recall that Newsonline had reported that five governors were reportedly working for the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

“He is secretly supporting Peter Obi. It will be the same thing Rauf Aregbesola did to them in Osun State.

“Although Aregbesola did not decamp, he instructed his supporters to back Ademola Adeleke. It is the same card Wike may play during the campaigns,” the source said.
