1. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons says no fewer than 25,000 trafficked Nigerian women and girls are trapped in Mali. The Commander of the Benin Zone of NAPTIP, Mr Nduka Nwanwenne gave the figure on Tuesday at a workshop organised for media professionals in Lagos.

2. The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday, wrote to the state House of Assembly, informing the legislature he was going on a 21-day medical leave. The governor also notified the Assembly that he had handed over to the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to act as governor while he was away.

3. Senator Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday emerged as the President of the Senate, while Senator Jibrin Barau won the position of the Deputy President of the upper legislative chambers. At the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas won the election for the position of Speaker, while Benjamin Kalu emerged as the Deputy Speaker.

4. The families of no fewer than 103 wedding guests including a father and his four children have been thrown into mourning after a boat accident claimed their lives at Egbu village, in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State. It was gathered that the victims were returning from the ceremony at Egboti village in Niger State when the boat conveying them to their destinations crashed.

5. The Nigerian Bar Association on Tuesday told the President, Bola Tinubu, that the determination of what “constitutes “illegal orders” still remains a matter within the exclusive preserve of the courts of law”. The NBA said this in a letter by its president, Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, in reaction to a statement by the President, during his Democracy Day address, “that the unnecessary illegal orders used to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated.”

6. The Nasarawa State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association has issued a 21-day strike ultimatum to the state government over the poor welfare packages of doctors across the 13 local government areas of the state.

7. The naira on Monday recorded marginal gains at the parallel markets and steadied at the official, the first business day after former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele was suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The local currency recovered from N767/$1 it traded at the weekend, to close at N754/$1 at the parallel markets as more dealers expressed optimism in the policy direction of the new government.

8. Former United States President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to federal criminal charges that he unlawfully kept national-security documents when he left office and lied to officials who sought to recover them. Trump was allowed to leave court without conditions or travel restrictions and no cash bond was required.

9. Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Peter Obi, on Tuesday, tendered additional 191 exhibits from 157 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the federation, including INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) reports obtained from five states as part of exhibits to prove alleged malpractices during the February 25 presidential election.

10. Guinness World Records, on Tuesday, announced Hilda Baci the new record holder for the longest cooking time by an individual. The GWR, however, trimmed down Hilda’s time in her attempt to set a record of 100 hours by deducting almost seven hours from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
